Three. Each one adds its own health, stamina and eitr on top of your base pools, and all three run their own timers at the same time. The planner above lets you fill all three slots and shows the combined total.

Food does not stay at full strength and then vanish. It scales continuously by (time left / duration) raised to the power of 0.3, which means you keep most of the benefit for most of the timer and then lose it quickly near the end. Read from Valheim 0.221.12 game files.

Once that food's timer drops below half its duration. Eating on a rotation as each item passes the halfway mark keeps all three slots near full rather than letting them run dry together.

Piquant Pie gives the most raw health at 105, and Roasted Crust Pie gives the most stamina at 100. The right pick depends on what you are doing though: a mining trip wants stamina, a boss fight wants health, and the planner shows the combined result so you can compare builds rather than chase one number.

10 of the 75 foods in the game give eitr, the resource magic uses. Filter by eitr in the planner to see them. You need it in at least one slot to cast at all, and mages usually run two eitr foods plus one health food.

Your food timers live on your character, so they follow you between worlds and survive a server restart the same way your inventory does. Running your world on a Physgun Valheim server means the world itself stays up whether or not the host is online, so your crew can log in and keep their own progression going.
