The listed recipe is only the surface. Most gear needs intermediate crafts and smelted metal underneath it, so the real cost is the whole tree. This calculator walks all 314 enabled recipes plus the smelting conversions down to the things you actually mine, chop or kill for. Read from Valheim 0.221.12 game files.

Upgrades are charged per level on top of the base craft, and 168 of the recipes in the game have them. Set the quality on any item in the list and the totals include every upgrade step up to it, so you can see the full cost of taking something to max before you commit the metal.

Yes, and that is usually where the real cost hides. Asking for an item made of bronze traces back through the smelter to copper and tin ore, and it counts the coal the smelter burns on the way. Coal is counted but not broken down further, since it comes from a kiln burning wood you are probably already gathering.

Every result lists its station and the level it has to be at, and the calculator rolls that up across everything in your list. If one item needs a level 3 workbench and another needs level 2, you see the highest requirement, so you know what to upgrade before you start.

Your character and its inventory are stored separately from the world, so gear travels with you. Running the world itself on a Physgun Valheim server means it stays up whether or not the host is online, so nobody is blocked from gathering while someone else is offline.
