RuneScape: Dragonwilds

How to Enable PvP on Your RuneScape: Dragonwilds Server

Turn on PvP for your Dragonwilds server: make a Friendly Fire world in the game, upload its save and set it as your server's World Name.

To let your players fight each other as well as the dragons, turn on PvP. In RuneScape: Dragonwilds, that’s the world’s Friendly Fire setting. It’s saved in the world itself, not in a server setting. So you make a world with Friendly Fire on in the game, upload its save to your server, and tell the server to load that world.

Before you start, you need the game on a PC (Steam version) and access to your server in the Physgun Gamepanel. Uploading a world doesn’t change your current server world, but the server only runs one world at a time.

Make a world with Friendly Fire on

This part happens in the game, on your own PC.

  1. Start RuneScape: Dragonwilds and create a new world.
  2. On the World Settings screen, turn on Friendly Fire. In some versions it’s under Advanced.
  3. Give the world a short, simple name, such as PvPWorld. You’ll type this name again later.
  4. Create the world and load into it. Then save and exit to the main menu so the game writes the save file.

You can also use a world you already host. Turn on Friendly Fire in its settings, then select Edit World to keep the change.

Your save is now on your PC as a .sav file named after the world:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\SaveGames\PvPWorld.sav

To open the folder, paste the path without the file name into the Windows Explorer address bar. If you have several worlds, sort the folder by Date modified to find the newest one. The Xbox app keeps its saves somewhere else, and they aren’t .sav files, so use the Steam version of the game for this.

Upload the world

  1. Open your server in the Physgun Gamepanel and select Files in the menu on the left.
  2. Select Stop at the top of the page.
  3. Select Yes, Stop Server and wait for the server to show Offline.
  4. Open the RSDragonwilds folder.
  5. Open the Saved folder.
  6. Open the SaveGames folder. This is where your server keeps its worlds. You’ll see the current world here, for example Physgun World.sav.
  7. Select New.
  8. Select Upload and choose your world’s .sav file from your PC. Don’t rename the file.
  9. When the upload finishes, find your file in the list. Its name without .sav is the world name you’ll use next.

If you uploaded while the server was running, stop it, upload the file again and then start it. You can leave the other saves in the folder. The server loads only the world you set in the next step.

Set the World Name

  1. Select Server Options in the menu on the left.
  2. Type World Name in the search box at the top.
  3. In the World Name field, enter your save’s file name without .sav, exactly as it appears in Files. Capital letters and spaces count. For PvPWorld.sav, type PvPWorld.
  4. Press Tab or click outside the field. The panel confirms that the setting was saved.

Players searching the Public tab find your server by its World Name, so give them the new name.

Start the server and check

  1. Select Console in the menu on the left.
  2. Select Start at the top of the page. The server shows Online after about a minute.
  3. Watch the console as it starts. If the world loaded, you’ll see a line like this:
LogDomServerGameMode: Loading configured world [PvPWorld] from save slot [PvPWorld]

A bit later, a Setting ["PvpEnabled"] line ends in value[1] when Friendly Fire is on, or value[2] when it’s off. The console wraps long lines, so these may be split across two rows.

Then test it in the game. Join the server with a friend, and check that your attacks damage each other. In PvP, a player who kills another player can loot their gravestone, so tell your players before they bring their best gear.

If PvP doesn’t work

  • The console says No save found for configured world. The server made a new world without PvP because the World Name doesn’t match your file. Correct the World Name so it matches the file name exactly (see step 3 under “Set the World Name”), then restart the server. You can delete the extra world the server made in SaveGames.
  • The world loads but PvpEnabled shows value[2]. Friendly Fire was off when the world was saved. Turn it on in the game, select Edit World, save and exit, then upload the file again.
  • Players can’t join. Your friends need the same game version as the server. If you also set a World Password in Server Options, they need it to join.
