Anyone who searches your World Name in the game’s server list can find your Dragonwilds server. If no password is set, they can also walk straight in. A World Password keeps your world for the people you invite: players have to type it in before they can join, and you can set one in the Physgun Gamepanel.
Set the World Password
- Open your server and select Server Options in the menu on the left.
- Type
World Passwordin the Search box at the top of Startup Parameters. That hides every setting except the one you need. - Click the World Password field and type your password. Leave out spaces,
#and;, and keep it to 32 characters or fewer. - Press Tab or click anywhere outside the field. The password saves itself, and the panel shows Startup variable successfully saved.
Once it’s saved, the panel blurs the password, so nobody looking at your screen can read it.
World Password or Admin Password?
Further down Server Options there is also an Admin Password. Don’t mix the two up:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| World Password | Players type it to join. When it’s empty, anyone can join. |
| Admin Password | Players who type it under Server Management in the pause menu become admins and can ban players. It does not lock the server. |
Only the World Password makes your server private. Use a different password for each, so a friend who knows how to get in can’t also make themselves an admin.
Restart the server
Your server only reads the new password when it starts, so restart it now.
- Select the arrow next to Stop at the top of the page.
- Select Restart.
- Select Yes, Restart Server.
- Wait while the status next to your server name goes from Starting to Online. This takes a minute or two.
From now on, everyone who joins needs the password.
Join with the password
Run this check in the game client so you know the lock works before you pass the password around.
- Launch RuneScape: Dragonwilds and go to the server list.
- Open the Public tab and search for your server’s exact World Name. The default is
Physgun World. Search looks at the World Name, not the server name in the panel. - Select your world and join it. The game asks for a password.
- Type a wrong password first. The game should turn you away.
- Try again with the right password. This time you join your world.
To open your server to everyone again, clear the World Password field, click outside it, and restart the server.
If it doesn’t work
- Nobody is asked for a password: the server hasn’t restarted since you saved the password. Go back to “Restart the server” above.
- The right password is refused: passwords have to match exactly, capitals included. Click the World Password field to check what you saved, and make sure your friends aren’t typing the Admin Password.
- The server doesn’t show up in the Public tab: check that the server shows Online, and that you typed the World Name exactly as it appears in Server Options.
- You can see the server but can’t join: your game and the server have to run the same version. Update your game and restart the server, so it picks up the latest update when it starts.
- Your password came back after you edited the server files: the server writes the World Password from Server Options into its config every time it starts. Always change it in Server Options.
