Realistically for Vanilla MC you will be good around ~4-6GB, as recent updates have been released Vanilla has been becoming more and more expensive to run with stability. However a great way to reduce memory is to use Paper, it is basically Vanilla MC but with engine optimizations built in, here at Physgun we launch every server with Paper off the bat due to the extreme performance improvements it provides.

Physgun Optimizations are optimizations we make on our end to ensure your server runs faster than a stock server. For Minecraft we employ a bunch of techniques to make memory garbage collection more efficient and CPU more effective so you have less lag when loading things like chunks or playing with mods.

Minecraft loves single threaded performance, however it also can be multi-threaded with its chunk loading in newer builds. Ryzen CPUs are generally the absolute best when it comes to running a Minecraft server which is why we almost exclusively only use Ryzen here at Physgun because it is the absolute best performance, and we believe all our customers deserve the best performance when using a Physgun server.

Unfortunately mods, especially Forge mods are usually very heavy whether they were built without performance in mind or they simple do so much that it takes a ton of resources to run. Which is why we very much recommend anyone wanting to run a Modded MC server to use our Ocean or Nether plan as they are more geared towards modded servers with their higher end CPUs.
