DarkRP Demote Group Generator

Paste the generated Lua code into lua/darkrp_customthings/demotegroups.lua inside the darkrpmodification addon on your server. The full path is garrysmod/addons/darkrpmodification/lua/darkrp_customthings/demotegroups.lua. This file is loaded automatically by DarkRP.

A demote group links related jobs together so that when a player is demoted from any job in the group, they are temporarily banned from all jobs in that group — not just the one they were demoted from. For example, if the Police Chief is demoted and they share a group with Police Officer, that player can't switch to Police Officer to get around the demotion.

Players can start a demote vote against another player by typing /demote [name] [reason] in chat. If enough players vote yes, the target is demoted back to the default citizen job and temporarily banned from switching back. Demote groups extend this ban to all related jobs.

A common setup is grouping all government jobs together: TEAM_CHIEF, TEAM_POLICE, TEAM_MAYOR, and TEAM_SWAT. If any of these players get demoted, they can't just switch to another government role. Another example is grouping gang-related jobs like TEAM_GANG and TEAM_MOB.

The demote ban duration is controlled by your DarkRP configuration. By default it lasts a few minutes, but the exact duration depends on your server's settings in settings.lua. During this time, the demoted player cannot switch to any job in the demote group.

A job should only be in one demote group. If you add the same team to multiple groups, the behavior may be unpredictable. Keep each job in a single group that makes logical sense — for example, all police jobs in one group and all criminal jobs in another.

Without demote groups, a demoted player is only banned from the specific job they were demoted from. They could immediately switch to a similar role (e.g., from Police Chief to Police Officer) to continue doing the same thing. Demote groups close this loophole.

Yes, you need to restart your server or change the map for new demote groups to take effect. The demote groups are loaded when DarkRP initializes, so any changes require a restart.
